The Khalzan Buregtei Rare Earth Elements (REE) Project, led by the Mongolian National Rare Earth Corporation (MNREC), attended the 2024 International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC), a key global event for the mining industry. IMARC, held annually, serves as a major platform where leaders and experts in mining convene to discuss industry trends, including ESG, sustainability, digital transformation, and energy transition.
This year, IMARC attracted over 800 mining companies from more than 120 countries, with a total attendance exceeding 9,000 participants, guests, and delegates.
Notably, Wood Australia, which led the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) for Khalzan Buregtei, participated in IMARC and formally received the PFS report. Wood, a well-regarded mining consulting firm, has been instrumental in assessing the project’s economic and technical viability, focusing on resource evaluation, potential processing technologies, and environmental impact. This PFS phase is crucial for positioning Khalzan Buregtei as a globally competitive source of heavy rare earth elements like dysprosium.
Khalzan Buregtei’s attendance at IMARC underscores Mongolia’s growing presence in the global REE supply chain, especially as demand for sustainable sourcing rises. During IMARC, the project’s Environmental and Sustainability Team met with key partners in the PFS, Wood Australia, and Knight Piesold, which conducted the Waste Management Study, to exchange insights on the upcoming Definitive Feasibility Study phase and strategy.
